Low Pollution Transportation

This

The Department has an interest in evaluating various alternative energy schemes, and in particular non-polluting transportation, in the local environment. The size of the Island means that the ranges currently obtainable with lead-acid batteries arre quite suitable for local use. A number of electric (battery- and solar- powered) vehicles have been constructed and instrumented to measure power consumption. Their performance is then evaluated, both in terms of energy consumption and in terms of performance and utility.
