In 2002 he obtained an M.Sc. in Atmospheric Physics from the University of Malta. From 2003 till 2004, he was recruited as a researcher in the European Commission Research Training Network (RTN) called ATREUS (Advanced Tools for Rational Use towards Sustainability), in the University of Aveiro, under the supervision of Professor Carlos Borrego, to carry out mesoscale modelling. Between 2004 and 2007, he obtained a Health Effects Institute (HEI), USA Scholarship to read a Ph.D. at the University of Birmingham, UK, within the MATCH (Measurement and Modelling of Exposure to Air Toxic Concentrations for Health Effects Studies) Project under the supervision of Professor Roy M. Harrison OBE. Mr. Aquilina joined the Physics Department as an Assistant Lecturer in 2008. He is engaged in research associated with the atmospheric environment, namely climate change modelling and emission modelling. Other research interests include air quality monitoring, personal exposure modelling, exposure to and dynamics of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAH) and Environmental Tobacco Smoke (ETS). http://smap.ew.eea.europa.eu/fol120392/prj273605/ http://www.gees.bham.ac.uk/research/MATCH/index.htm
